April 16, 2018, is the 129th birth anniversary of Charlie Chaplin, the King of comedy!

An iconic Hollywood legend who rose to fame in the silent era with his comic acting, Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years.

The Tramp, also known as The Little Tramp, was Charlie Chaplin's most memorable on-screen character and an icon in world cinema which stuck with him.

“Nothing is permanent in this wicked world, not even our troubles”. In the world which was struggling through wars, economic breakdowns, and depressions, Charlie Chaplin’s movies were a source of happiness and comfort. His movies made a difference in a world already grappled by misery.

Many countries from all around the world have issued stamps commemorating this legendary comedy king of Hollywood. Most of them depict Chaplin in his iconic “Little Tramp” get up. India Post on 16th of April 1978 released a 25 paise commemorative stamp of Chaplin.
