A “Universal Genius” was born!

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, more commonly Leonardo da Vinci was born on 15th April 1452 in Vinci province of Florence in modern day Italy.

One of the most diversely talented individuals ever to have lived, Da Vinci is most renowned as a painter and artist. He was a leading artist and intellectual of the Italian Renaissance who's known for his world famous works, "The Last Supper" and "Mona Lisa."

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”, truly the man who came to be known as the “Renaissance Man” was a genius polymath. He has been variously called the father of palaeontology, iconology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters the 5th centenary of Leonardo Da Vinci. It showed Leonardo, Amboise Château and the town of Vinci of all time.

In 1952, a 30 Franc commemorative stamp was issued by the France to celebrate. Similarly, a commemorative stamp of 80 Lires was released by Italy. It depicted the famous self-portrait in red crayon of Da Vinci.

Many countries have issued stamps of Leonardo Da Vinci and most stamp designs depict Leonardo da Vinci are based on his famous Self-Portrait, done in red crayon. Other stamps depict Da Vinci along with his famous paintings, inventions and drawings.

Leonardo is obviously a very interesting character. He would fit in with quite a lot of topics: weaponry, warfare, architecture, engineering, painting, the human anatomy, aeroplanes, writing, drawing, art, sculpture, religion, etc.
