Kentucky is well known for horse racing, bourbon distilleries, moonshine, coal, the "My Old Kentucky Home" historic state park, automobile manufacturing, tobacco, bluegrass music, college basketball, and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

This quarter dollar is the 15th coin issued in 50 State Quarters Program and 5th coin release in the year 2001.
