Remembering Sanjeev Kumar

Harihar Jethalal Jariwala, popularly known as Sanjeev Kumar, was a Bollywood’s legendary versatile actor. He was one of the most famous stars in the 60s and 70s. Sanjeev Kumar was born today on 9th July 1938, in Surat. He started with stage performances and eventually went on screen and become one of the most remembered actors of Bollywood.

He made his first debut with an appearance in the film Hum Hindustani in 1960, but his first film as a protagonist was in Nishan. Later, he also appeared in numerous legendary films of Indian cinema such as Manchali, Angoor, Biwi-o-Biwi, and Hero.

Sajeev Kumar was known for his iconic role in films like Sholay, Trishul, Shikar, Pati Patni Aur Who, etc. His character – Thakur in “Sholay” made him so famous that he is still remembered for the same role. He is well remembered for his versatility and genuine portrayal of his characters.

He won several major awards including two National Film Awards for Best Actor for his performances in the movies Dastak and Koshish. To honor this one of the most influential actors of Bollywood, India Postal Department has issued 500 Paise commemorative stamp in 2013.
