Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, A well-known politician from Andhra Pradesh, was born today on 8th July 1949. Also known as YSR, Reddy served two times Chief Minister of the Andhra Pradesh State from 2004 to 2009. Reddy was born at Pilivendula to Y.S. Raja Reddy and Jayamma. He has his early education in Bellary and later, he completed his medical studies from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College. Reddy practiced medical officer for some time in Jammalamadugu Mission Hospital.

Before joining into Politics, he established a 70-bed charitable hospital. He started his political career in 1978 and contested from Pulivendula to State Assembly Election. Later, he served various posts such as Minister of State for Rural Development, Excise Minister, and Education Minister. He even continued the winning streak for Kadapa constituency for four terms in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Lok Sabha.

A commemorative postage stamp with 500 Paise denomination on Y.S. Reddy was issued in 2010, on the occasion of his first death anniversary stamps carrying his portrait. .
