Georgia to Start Circulating New 10 GEL Banknotes from October

The National Bank of Georgia will start circulating new 10 GEL banknotes from 1st October 2019. The older versions of the note will continue to be in circulation as well. On the 20th anniversary of the Lari in 2015, the plan for upgrading the National Currency Lari banknotes was officially announced. On 3rd November 2015, updated, 20, 50, 100 GEL banknotes were introduced. These were printed on high-quality paper and came with improved security features which are easily identifiable.The new designs symbolise the cultural, historical and traditional values of Georgia. With this release, all lari banknotes will be renewed. The obverse side depicts a different portrait of Akaki Tsereteli in better relief and quality. An excerpt from the poem "Spring" and his autograph are also featured. The reverse side depicts a Georgian dancer, a replication of the famous artwork named "Imereti-My mother" by artist David Kakabadze and the state emblem of Georgia. 2019 also marks the 130th birth anniversary of David Kakabadze.
20 and 50 GEL banknotes were issued on 1st February 2016, 100 lari banknotes were introduced on 1st November 2016. 5 lari banknotes were withdrawn from 1st September 2017. The new designs were created by Bacha Malazonia.
