The Nawab of Arcot is also known as Nawab of Carnatic had ruled the south region of India between 1690 CE and 1801 CE. Initially, they have their capital at Arcot. The rule of Nawab of Arcot is considered as one of the most important rules in the history of Tamil Nadu; in which the Mughal Empire gave way to the rising influence of the Maratha Empire, and later the emergence of the British Raj.
The Nawab of Arcot traces their origin back to second Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. The Nawab of Arcot was established by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, by appointing Zulfikhar Ali Khan as first Nawab of Arcot in the year 1692 CE. Later; it helped Arcot to gain its victory over Maratha ruler Rajaram.
This silver rupee was issued by Nawab of Arcot in the name of Mughal Emperor Alamgir II. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of the king and reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name.
