Block Island National Wildlife Refuge is an important habitat for wildlife, and also a place for the people to appreciate the natural environment of the island. Block Island has administrated as Rhode Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex; The National Wildlife Refuge Complex manages all five National Wildlife Refuges in Rhode Island and is headquartered in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

Block Island National Wildlife was established in the year 1973; it is located to the south coast of Rhode Island. This island is surrounded by 17 miles of beach, around 43 percent of the island is been preserved. The activity like swimming, Kayak, paddleboard, parasail, surf, bike, charter fishing is also available on Block Island.

The United States of America had issued this commemorative quarter dollar with the theme of Block Island in the year 2018. The reverse of this coin depicts black-crowned night-heron flying over the beach at Cow Cove looking towards Sandy Point, the North Light lighthouse is also seen in the background.
