Interesting Philatelic Material to be Auctioned by Spink

2019-06-25 Tue

The Spink auction would be offering several interesting postage stamps and covers on 10th and 11th July in London. The Michael Lewis collection of Malta and the “Rothman” collection of philatelic material from Rhodesia are some of the highlights. Late 18th- and early 19th-century covers from Cape of Good Hope, essays and proofs from Ceylon, the Cyprus Queen Victoria key type issues, covers from Northern Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia, Great Britain stamps and “line-engraved issues” are also going to be offered.

A commercial registered cover front sent on 22nd May 1882, from Nicosia, Cyprus, to Hull, England is another interesting offering. The cover has 30 rose coloured Queen Victoria stamps that were issued in 1882. These have 30-paras on 1-piaster and one of them features the flat-topped “c” plate flaw. The cover was a part of the Col. J.R. Danson collection. It pays a ten times rate along with registration and is being offered with a pre-auction estimate of £5,000 to £6,000.
