Footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan Featured on Latest Armenian Stamps

Hey Post of Armenia issued a new postage stamp dedicated to the captain of the Armenian national team, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The stamp features a portrait of Mkhitaryan wearing the jersey of the Armenian national football team. The portrait was created by Vahagn Mkrtchyan. The footballer himself along with other officials from the Government, HayPost CJSC and the Union of Philatelists of Armenia cancelled the postage stamp.

Born on 21st January 1989 in Yerevan, Mkhitaryan has been playing for the English Premier League club Arsenal FC as an attacking midfielder since 2018. He started playing professional football for a local club called Pyunik when he was 17 years old and helped his team win four Armenian Premier League titles. He was later picked up by a Ukrainian club called Metalurh Donetsk for one season. He was transferred to Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010 for €6.1 million. It was here where Mkhitaryan rose to fame with his wonderful assists and numerous goals. He was then picked up by Borussia Dortmund for €27.5 million and became the most expensive Armenian football player. He became one of the best midfielders in Europe during this period. He then joined Manchester United in 2016 to become the first Armenian player to join an English Premier League club.

Mkhitaryan got the title of Honorary Citizen of Yerevan in 2012. He received a medal of “Services to the Motherland” in 2017. He has been the Armenian player of the year eight times and has also scored the most number of goals for his national team.
