Pobjoy Mint released a new Cupro-Nickel Diamond Finish Coloured coin featuring a male and female Gentoo penguin in colour on the reverse side. It’s the 4th coin in a five-coin series which is dedicated to Penguins of Antarctica. The obverse side depicts an effigy Queen Elizabeth II which is exclusively designed by Pobjoy Mint. A separate colour album is also available to store all five coins from the set. It has pictures and important information related to all five types of penguins. The 8 grams coin has a diameter of 27.3 millimetres and a mintage limit of 4,000 pieces.A wide white stripe extends across the head of a Gentoo penguin. As its Latin name “Pygoscelis” suggests, these penguins are brush-tailed. Their tails sway sideways while they walk. It is the third largest species of penguin and the fastest underwater swimmer, reaching a speed of up to 22 mph/36 kph. Gentoo penguins can be spotted near the British Antarctic Survey research stations.
