India post issued a Commemorative Stamp in the memory of Bhagavad Gita – one of the sacred texts of India. The Bhagavad Gita stamp is among the Pride of India Series and was issued in the year, 1978.Simply known as the Gita, the Bhagavad Gita is considered to be the most important Sanskrit text in the history of literature and philosophy and is a part of the ancient epic, Mahabharata. The content of the Gita is the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield before the beginning of the Kurukshetra War.
The Gita elaborates on different Yogic and Vedanta philosophies and is a beautiful metaphorical work which narrates the way of living life. It is nothing but a practical and self-contained guide to life.
The commemorative stamp comes with a denomination of 25 Paisa. This magnificent orange stamp depicts the most celebrated image of the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna as well as the most versed “Shloka” “Karmanye Vadhika Raste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana”.
