The United States of America had issued commemorative silver dollar with the theme of Lewis and Clark Expedition. Lewis and Clark were the first Americans to cross the western portion of the United States. This two men Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had begun their journey from Pittsburgh made their way westward and passed through Continental Divide of America to reach Pacific Coast.

Lewis and Clark Expedition are also known as Corps of Discovery Expedition. The Corps of Discovery was a selected group of US Army volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend Second Lieutenant William Clark.

The United States of America had issued him this commemorative silver dollar with the theme of Lewis and Clark. The United States of America had issued this commemorative silver dollar in an occasion of completion of 200 years. The obverse of this coin depicts Captains Lewis and Clark on a stream bank planning another day of exploration. Lewis is holding a rifle in one hand and journal on the other hand. The reverse of the coin depicts two feathers to represent the many American Indian cultures touched by the Corps of Discovery.
