India Might Release Coins to Commemorate Cricket World Cup

Cricket fans are going crazy as the most awaited sporting event is just around the corner! The 12th edition of Cricket World Cup, hosted by England and Wales will begin on 30th May and will continue till 14th July 2019. 10 international teams will compete for glory at various stadiums across the host nations. Apart from sports enthusiasts, there is great news for Indian coin collectors as well. According to some media reports, the Indian Government might release a gold and silver coin to commemorate the 2019 Cricket World Cup! If this happens then these coins would be the first Indian coins based on a Cricket theme and the gold coins would be the first ever gold coins of Republic India. As per various sources, the coins might be struck at Mumbai Mint and released in the last week of May.Media sources state that the 5 grams gold coin will have a face value of Rs. 1000 and a diameter of e 18mm while the 4 grams silver coin will have a face value of Rs. 500 and a diameter of 44mm. The gold coin could be sold for around 18000 Rs while the silver coin may cost around 2000 to 3000 rupees. The ICC Cricket World Cup logo will be featured on one side of the coin while the other side will feature the denomination and our National Emblem. Official information about the coin could be published soon.
Sources also reveal that the Mumbai Mint got permission from the ICC through the Indian government for using the logo on the coin. The gold coin might be packed in a red box while the silver coin may be packed in a blue box.
