Aziz-and-Din Alamgir II, best known as Alamgir II was the ruler of the Mughal Empire. He ruled the Mughal Empire from 1754 CE till 1759 CE. He was the second son of Jahandar Shah. He sat on the Mughal throne with the help of Imad-ud Din Mulk; when he deposed Ahmad Shah Bahadur in the year 1754 CE.When Alamgir II sat on the throne of the Mughal Empire he was an old man of 55 years. Alamgir II had no experience of administration and warfare, as most of the time, he had spent in jail. After sitting on the throne of the Mughal Empire, he tried to follow the approach of Aurangzeb Alamgir. Alamgir II was a weak ruler. The trigger of his powers was in the hands of his vizier Ghazi-ud-Din Imad-ul-Mulk.
This silver rupee was issued by Aziz-ud-Din Alamgir II from the mint Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad, during the 4th year of his reign. The obverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Haft Kishwara Taban Mehro Mah Azizuddin Alamgir, Badshah Ghazi’.
