International Mother Earth Day is an international observance that falls every year on 22nd April.

First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day now includes events in more than 193 countries, which are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on the environmental issues that the world faces.

In 2009, International Mother Earth Day was established by the General Assembly under Resolution introduced by The Plurinational State of Bolivia. It recognizes that "the Earth and its ecosystems are our home" and that "it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth."

These two observances are celebrated on the same day with same motive to save earth from the deteriorating. Every year the day is celebrated with different programmes and different themes. This year’s theme is 'Protect Our Species'. It aims to draw attention to the rapid extinction of species across the world.

Also celebrated by Philatelic Bureaus all over the world, this day has given a special place on the stamps. The above given stamp is issued by USPS. This 33 cent stamp was issue in the year 1993 and depicts globe held in hands symbolizing the protection of the earth.
