The ANZAC to Afghanistan Official 2016 Coin Collection features 14 coins themed 'Learn the Legend', with designs based on photographs of significant military moments in Australia’s history. The first coin and a special collector’s album are free while coins 2-14 are $3 each.The first coin pays tribute to the character of the Aussie Digger who was first forged on the Gallipoli beaches in April 1915, when Australian soldiers showed great courage despite being repelled by the Turks.
The second coin is dedicated to the sacrifice on the Western Front in World War I and its theme is the French battlefield of Fromelles.
The coin collection features WWII coins themed around the Rats of Tobruk, the name given to the soldiers of the garrison who held the Libyan port of Tobruk, as well as the Darwin bombing.
Coins 5-8 showcase Bomber Command, the Thai-Burma Railway, Kokoda and the Battle of Long Tan.
The most recent conflicts have gone to the Persian Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan to support military operations and to be liberators and rebuilders.
The final coins in the series commemorate the Korean War, Peacekeeping, Special Forces, Dogs at War, Afghanistan and Peace.
