Pobjoy Mint released a new Fine Silver 2oz coin in High Relief for British Indian Ocean Territory. depicting a female warrior with her trained dragon. The obverse side depicts an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The 62.21 grams silver coin has a diameter of 50 millimetres and a mintage limit of 650, while the 28.28 grams Cu-Ni version has a diameter of 38.6 millimetres and a mintage limit of 10,000 pieces. The silver coins come in an acrylic case which is then kept in an outer sleeve that also contains the Certificate of Authenticity. The cupro-nickel coins come in tubes of 20.Mythical characters have appeared on coins for several years. Every English Monarch used beasts to symbolize their dynasty. Beasts such as the Tudor dragon were created to celebrate the marriage of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour. They were placed in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace. One of the Queen’s Beasts is a dragon. Dragons have been a part of several mythical stories, books and movies. The most popular and oldest one is probably the story of St. George and the Dragon.
