2019-03-26 Tue

Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit will be featured on new 2019 50-penny coins for the UK. The famous lovable character appeared on UK coins for the first time in the year 2016. It was part of a special set that celebrated Beatrix Potter’s 150th anniversary. Peter Rabbit was also featured on coins that were released in 2017 and 2018. This year though, the commemorative coins will have a limited mintage and they won’t enter general circulation.

Created by Royal Mint designer Emma Noble, the new coin highlights Potter’s original illustration style. They are available in three versions. The 8 grams Brilliant Uncirculated copper-nickel version has an unlimited mintage and can be bought for £10; the 8 grams Proof .925 fine silver coin has a mintage limit of 30,000 and can be bought for £65; and 15.5 grams Proof .9167 fine gold coin has a mintage limit of 500 pieces and can be purchased for £795. The silver coin features a coloured hand-painted illustration. All coins feature an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark on the obverse and have a diameter of 27.3 millimetres.
