A Legendary Indian singer, Gangubai Hangal was born on 05th March 1913. She was affectionately celebrated as brilliant exponent of Hindustani Classical Music of India ever had.Gangubai Hangal was born in a Dharwad to Chikkurao Nadiger and Ambabai. At a very early age, she was fascinated with music and musical instruments like Kinnari (stringed instrument like a veena).
Gangubai was known as the Living superstar of the Kirana Gharana. Her collection is in the khayal form of singing.
She widely acclaimed and honoured for her powerful voice. Her notable awards are Karnataka Sangeet Nritya Academy Award, Padma Bhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, Padma Vibhushan.
Although this multi-layered artist passed away years ago but her music remains in the heart of millions of people still today. To honor this legendary India post has issued a commemorative stamp in 2014.
