Forest Research Institute is one of the prestigious institutes of India, dedicated singularly to the field of forestry.
This institute is an educational cum tourist spot set amidst the lush green mountains ranges. It is located at Dehradun in Uttarakhand and is amongst the oldest institutions of its kind.
In 1878, it was set up as a small forest school to impart training to forest rangers. In 1906, it was reestablished as the Imperial Forest Research Institute.
The building was built in the Greco-Roman architectural style. The vast and imposing corridors of this beautiful building bring back some memories of the valuable observations made by the pioneers. Apart from the picturesque beauty, the place hosts 6 museums on forestry.
India post has issued a commemorative postage stamp on Forest Research Institute on the occasion of 4th World Forestry Congress, Dehradun.
