Rare Small Size Currency from the USA

Stack’s Bowers Galleries Spring 2019 Baltimore Auction will be offering six rare small size high-denomination banknotes. Five of them are 1934 $500 Light Green Seal Gems and they were unknown for a long time. It was a part of the Stradivarius Collection, which is the only known gem-quality district set of $500 Light Green Seal Federal Reserve Notes. Four out of these five $500 Light Green Seal notes are the finest known of their types. They were issued for Boston, New York, Atlanta, and Dallas and are the only notes in Gem condition for their district. The fifth note is a $500 LGS graded Superb Gem 68 from Chicago. It is the finest 2201-G Chicago $500 LGS note and also the finest known 1934 $500 LGS for any of the 12 Federal Reserve Districts.

A 1928 $1,000 Gold Certificate graded Gem 65PPQ by PCGS Currency is another highlight. They are scarce in any grade and extremely rare in Gem condition. No such example has ever been auctioned publically. A $500 Boston Light Green Seal graded Gem 65PPQ is the only finest example of its type. It is also the only known example of its type for the 1928 or 1934 series $500s. A $500 New York Light Green Seal graded Gem 65EPQ is the finest of its type. It is easy to find New York district Gems, but small size $500 are very rare in Gem condition. It’s the only example in Gem condition in any seal colour for the 1928 and 1934 series $500s. A $500 Atlanta Light Green Seal graded Gem 65PPQ is the finest of its type. It’s the only note of its type from Atlanta known for the 1928 or 1934 series $500s. The extremely rare $500 Chicago Light Green Seal graded Superb Gem 68PPQ is the finest example for any of the 12 Federal Reserve Districts. The $500 Dallas Light Green Seal graded Gem 65PPQ is the finest of its type and the only known example of its type for 1928 or 1934 series $500s. A very rare 1928 $1,000 Gold Certificate graded Gem 65PPQ will be offered in original preservation.
