Canada's Year of Pig Warrior Stamp

2019-01-30 Wed

Canada Post issued a unique stamp for the upcoming Year of the Pig which begins Feb. 5 and runs through Jan. 24, 2020.

The Pig is the twelfth of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac. According to the myths, the Pig was the last to arrive when the Jade Emperor called for the great meeting. Other sources said that Buddha called for a great meeting when he was about to leave the Earth. The Pig came in last.

The permanent domestic-rate stamp features a proud Pigsy-once powerful figure in heaven who was banished for misbehavior to life on Earth as a human-pig hybrid. The stamp features a proud Pigsy clad in heavenly armor, clutching an enormous nine-toothed muckrake.

The stamp was designed by Albert Ng and Seung Jai Paek which is based on the story of Zhu Bajie, a colorful character from the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West.
