Awadh Nawab Gold Mohur Listed For INR 60,000

Nawab Wajid Ali Shah was born on 30th July 1822; he was the 10th and last Nawab of Awadh, holding the position for 9 years from 1847 to 1856 AD.Nawab Wajid Ali Shah issued coins in all three metals gold, silver and copper. He issued his coin from mints like Lukhnow and Muhammadabad Banaras. All his coins found in various denominations like Rupee, Ashrafi and Falus.
This gold Ashrafi which was issued by him during the 3rd year of his reign in the Hijri year 1265 is listed for INR 60,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla which will be held in Ahmadabad on 9th February 2019. The obverse of the coin depicts the portion of Persian legend ‘Sikka zad bar sim wa zar az fazl tayeed Ilah, Zile haq Wajid Ali Sultan Alam Badshah’ with AH date 1265. The reverse of the coin depicts the coat of arm: crown with parasol above it, flanked by mermaids holding a flag, crossed swords below and legend ‘Julus Mainamat Manus Zarb Dar-Us-Sultanate Lucknow mulk awadh sanah’ inscribed around the circle.
