Shri Gulzarilal Nanda, Indian politician who served twice as Interim Prime Minister of India for a very short period, breathed his last on 15th January 1998.
Born on 4 July 1989 in a Sialkot in the Punjab province of British India, he pursued his education Allahabad University. Here he worked as a scholar on labour problems. Later, he became a Professor of Economics at National College in Bombay.
Soon after, he plunged into the Non-Co-operation Movement against the British Raj. An active participant of many socialist and independence movement and campaigns, he suffered imprisonment many times.
Nanda was honored with “Proud Past Alumni” from the Allahabad University Alumni Association. Beside this Government of India honored him with the highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 1997.
India Post has issued a Postage Stamp to commemorate a distinguished son of India on in 1999.
