Coinage of Bani Singh of Alwar Princely State

The royal lineage of Alwar was ruled by Narula Lalawat clan of Rajput dynasty. It located in north-eastern part of Rajasthan today.Rao Pratap Singh founded independent Alwar state. He was coroneted on 25th November 1775 at Alwar fort. He integrated regions such as Thanagazi, Rajgarh, Malakhera, Ajabgarh, Baldeogarh, Kankwari, Alwar, Ramgarh, Laxmangarh and nearby areas of Behror and Bansur to form Alwar Princely state.
Alwar was the first princely State to use coin minted in the Calcutta mint during British Raj. Bani Singh ruled the Alwar state from 1815 to 1857 AD. During the reign, he issued silver and copper coins from Rajgarh mint. These coins were issued in the denomination of Nazarana Rupee, Rupe, and Takka.
Represented here is a silver Rupee issued during his reign. This coin was issued in the name of Bahadur Shah and depicts the Persian legend ‘Sikka Mubarak Bahadur Shah Badshah Gazi’ on its obverse. The reverse of a coin inscribed with ‘Sanah 17 Zarb Rajgadh Julus Mainamat Manus’.
