First Prime Minister of India – Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was honoured on a set of five commemorative stamps of Ghana.

The Indo-Ghana ties have been in existence for more than 100 years and Indians in Ghana are amongst the most respected community. The strong foundation was solidified by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah. Both were influential and instrumental in the formation of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in 1961.

Hence, to further strengthen the bond between the two nations a set of five stamps were issued on 27th March 1990 to commemorate the Birth Centenary of this veteran freedom fighter of India. The stamps are as follows.

80 cedi – Return of Pt. Nehru from China.
200 cedi – Pt. Nehru with a dove, spreading the message of peace
350 cedi – A portrait of Pt. Nehru

All these stamps bear the inscription “100th Anniversary of the Birth of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru” with date 14th November 1989 at the bottom of the stamp. The name of the country and the denomination value is at the top.
