Death Anniversary of Dr. Sampurnanand

An able administrator and socialist, Dr. Sampurnanand was breathed his last on 10th January 1969. He was an eminent nationalist and freedom fighter.

Sampurnanand was born on January 1st 1891 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. During the freedom movement he spent almost 5 years in the prison and greatly influenced by Gandhi’s Non Co-operation Movement.

After independence he served various posts such as, he became Education Minister after and he became second chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Babu Sampurnanandji also served as the first Chairman of State Lalit Kala Akademi, Uttar Pradesh. Later he became the governor of Rajasthan also.

Besides this he was also left his contribution in Journalism field. He wrote journals and newspaper such as Maryada, Jagran, Aaj, and Today. He was also authored several books on history, astrology, Indian Philosophy and culture.

On the Death Anniversary of Dr. Sampoornanand, India post has issued 100 Paisa (1 Rupee) commemorative postage stamp in 1994.
