Birth anniversary of Vrindavan Lal Verma

The great novelist and playwright, Vrindavan Lal Verma was born on 9th January 1889. He belongs to Srivastava Kayasthya family. After completion of graduation from Victoria College, Gwalior, he enrolled himself for higher studies in Law College and started practicing in Jhansi.His notable works which includes historical and social novels are Gadh Kundar, Virata ko Padmini, Sangam, Lagan, and Amar Bel etc. Varma wrote short stories also which have been published in seven volumes. His autobiography Apni Kahani has also been highly praised.
He is no more but his work remains in the heart of millions of people still today. He was honored with Padma Bhushan for his literary works. Besides this, he received Soviet Land Nehru Award for his novel, Jhansi Ki Rani.
India post has issued 200 Paisa (2 Rupee) Commemorative postal stamps in 1997 to honor this great novelist who has a special place in Hindi literature.
