Shams Al-Din Daud Shah II was a sultan of Bahamani Kingdom. The Bahamani kingdom was founded by Ala-Al-Din Hassan Bahman Shah, by revolting successfully against the Sultan of Delhi, Muhammad Bin Tughluq. The capital of Bahmani Kingdom was Gulbarga from 1347 to 1425and later it was moved to Bidar in 1425 AD.Shams Al-Din Daud Shah II sat on a throne at a very young age in the year 1397 CE. He ruled this sultanate for a very short period of time. The two members of this family Firoz and Ahmad wanted to be next rulers of Bahamani Kingdom. The two brothers Firoz and Ahmad made a conspiracy against Shams Al-Din Daud Shah II. They then attacked the royal palace directly and killed the prime minister and his son. They attack Shams Al-Din Daud Shah II, imprisoned him and made him blind for the rest of his life. Later Firoz took over as Sultan and Ahmad as Prime minister.
Shams Al-Din Daud Shah II issued coins in silver and copper. In silver, he issued Tanka from the mint Hadrat Ahsanabad which weighs around 10.8g. In copper, he issued denomination like Falus which weighs around 4.5-5.5g.
This rare copper Falus which weighs around 5.2g was issued by him. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with King’s name ‘Daud Shah’ in the center within the circle. The reverse of the coin is inscribed as ‘Al-Muayyad Bi-Nisar Allah’.
