2019-01-03 Thu
‘Perron of Liege’ stamp of Belgium is the first stamp that was issued after the First World War by Belgium Post. After the First World War, Belgian stamps weren’t in production for a number of years. Then, in 1919, they finally started to be produced again. The first post-war stamp was the Perron Of Liege and holds great value to this day.
They were constructed to symbolize autonomy and local freedom. Liege was also the place where most of the heavy fighting took place during the war. This stamp is symbolic because it represents a new life for Belgium while paying homage to a city that helped protect Belgian citizens.
The stamp depicts the monument in the center with the name of the country on both top and bottom. The denomination is seen on the two top corners. The stamp was printed but the 25 cent stamp issued in 1919 is the rarest.
The very fine sheet of ten stamps was sold at USD 5,500 by Robert Siegel at “Rarities of the World” in 1980.
