The Buyid Dynasty represents the native rule of Western Iran and Iraq. It was a Shia Iranian dynasty who traced their ancestry to a Daylamite fisherman named Buyi bin Fanna. The dynasty was founded by Ali ibn Buya, who in 934 conquered Fars and made Shiraz his capital. The Buyids stayed in power for nearly a century, until they were defeated by the Seljuk Turks in 1055.Ali Ibn Buya also was known by his Laqab Imad al-Dawla, was ruled the Buyid dynasty from 934 to 949 AD. During the reign, he issued gold Dinar and silver Dirham. He was not listed as an independent ruler on contemporary sources, and the name of his brother appeared before his own on coins struck by him.
Above shown silver Dirham was issued during his reign in 326 AH from Shiraz mint. The obverse of a coin showed the legend ‘La Ilaha Illallah Wahdahu La sharika lahu while the reverse depicts with ‘Allah Muhammadur Rasulullah’.
