Atal Bihari Vajpayee Honoured with a New Commemorative Coin

In the honour of the Veteran politician of India - Atal Bihari Vajpayee A new Commemorative Coin worth Rs.100 has been released today; a day before the 93rd birth anniversary of Vajpayee.

Vajpayee passed away on August 16 at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Delhi. He was not only the veteran leader of India but also was the first ever person from the BJP to have become the nation's Prime Minister. Vajpayee served as Prime Minister thrice -- briefly in 1996, and then for two terms between 1998 and 2004.

Features of the coin:
The Rs 100 coin is made up of silver, copper, nickel and zinc and weighs 135 grams.
One side of the coin bears the portrait of Vajpayee with his name inscribed in the Devanagari script as well as Roman. The bottom of the image has years 1924 and 2018 – his birth and death years inscribed.
The other side of the coin bears the Ashoka Pillar Lion Capital in the centre with ‘Satyameva Jayate’ inscribed below in the Devanagari script. Left periphery is inscribed with ‘Bharat’ in Devanagari while the right side is inscribed with ‘India’ in Roman.

His birthday, which falls on December 25, is celebrated as 'Good Governance Day' by the BJP. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also honoured with ‘Bharat Ratna’ was in 2014.
