International Human Solidarity Day

2018-12-20 Thu

Today, on 20th December 2018 the United Nations’ recognized International Human Solidarity Day, it a day to celebrate the unity in diversity of human culture and society. Its main aim is to eradicate poverty and remind people the importance of solidarity. The term solidarity refers to a union of interests, purposes or sympathies among members of a group. The world leaders agreed in the Millennium Declaration that solidarity was a value that was important to international relations in the 21st century.

On this day the governments all over the world are reminded of their international commitments to an international agreement on the need for human solidarity as an initiative to fight against poverty. On public levels various campaigns are held on different issues like land mining, making health and medicine.

When one talks in terms of a country in regards to solidarity, India is the best example for it as it’s a diverse and versatile society united together. This unity of India is beautifully depicted on the commemorative postage stamp issued in 2016. It illustrated a ‘Statue of Unity’ dedicated to Sardar Vallabhai Patel-the unifier of India, who is credited with the merger of many Indian states.
