2018-12-20 Thu

Guadeloupe is an insular region of France located in the Leeward Islands, part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. With a land area of 1,628 square kilometers, it is the largest and most populous European Union territory in North America.

Guadeloupe issued stamps from 1884 using French colonies stamps overprinted with G.P.E or GUADELOUPE. The first definitive for Guadeloupe were issued in 1892. However before that, the country issued Tax stamps for the stamps. These stamps changed an amount as a tax for the stamps.

These stamps are the plain, off-white pieces of paper with the denominations handstampped on them along with a designer border and the words ‘a percevior’ meaning levy or impose. Guadeloupe has used stamps of France since 1947.
