Coin Invest Trust released a new 5 Dollars 1 oz .999 pure Silver Proof coin featuring a rain forest tree frog for the Cook Islands. Struck at B. H. Mayer’s Kunstprageanstalt, Munich, the coin belongs to the Magnificent Life Silver Coin Series, has a diameter of 38.61 mm and a mintage limit of 999 pieces. “Magnificent Life” is an annual coins series introduced by CIT in 2015. Coins depicting colourful images of a peacock, Wasp Spider and Cobra were released in 2015, 16 and 17 respectively.Like all other coins in the series, the obverse design of the latest coin also depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with initials of designer IRB and inscriptions ELIZABETH II – 5 DOLLARS – COOK ISLANDS / 2018. The reverse features a coloured image of the red-eyed tree frog on a green leaf along with the inscription MAGNIFICENT LIFE.
Red-eyed tree frogs thrive in a neotropical ecosystem. It is very difficult to spot these frogs because they crouch down while hiding their colourful legs, feet, and eyes as they camouflage perfectly against their green surroundings.
It’s also called callidryas in Latin which is a combination of the words kalos (beautiful) and dryas (tree inhabitant). The colourful coin design on the slightly concave reverse side is very accurate and appealing. The leaf is featured against a silhouette to create the perfect contrast with its shiny proof surfaces. All other coins in the series have already been sold out.
