42nd Death Anniversary of Bengali Writer Buddhadev Basu

Buddhadev Basu – a versatile Bengali Writer of the 20th century was honoured by India post with a stamp to commemorate his contribution. Born in a simple Bengali family, Buddhadeva Basu persuaded masters in English literature from the University of Dhaka. He further settled in Kolkata where he was associated with the modernist literary movement of the 1930s. Here on, he devoted his whole life to literature.His first literary work is considered to be the poetry book, "Bandir Bandona", which was the first step in his career. He wrote more than 40 novels, but his epic novel "Tithidore", published in 1949, became his most admired novel which is now considered a classic.
In 2008, India Post issued a commemorative stamp of the face value of Rs.5, featuring a portrait of Buddhadev Basu.
