Final Set of Stamps from Jersey’s Great War Series

Jersey’s five-year stamp series named “the Great War — 100 Years” ended with the release of a set of six stamps on 4th August. The stamps were based on the theme Armistice and remembrance.

They feature portraits of soldiers from Jersey who offered their service during the war. The 50 pence stamp features Pvt. Charles William Moody from London Regiment, Post Office Rifles. The 65p stamp features the 2nd Lt. Kenneth Strickland Dunlop from 4th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment. The 76p stamp features Petty Officer George Alfred Jeune from Royal Naval Reserve. The 82p stamp features Pvt. Clifford Helier Bree from Royal Army Medical Corps. 2nd West Lancashire Regiment. The 94p stamp features Lt. William McCrae Bruce from 59th Scinde Rifle. The £1.12 stamp features Madeleine Louise Norman from Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve and the £2 souvenir sheet features Cpl. Robert Leonard Norman who was a motorcycle dispatch rider from Royal Engineers Signals Service.

Original wartime photographs were restored and colourised by famous Russian historical colourist, Olga Shirnina, before they were used to design these stamps.
