2018-10-26 Fri
Bank of England would be soon releasing a new £50 polymer note. This release would complete the series as new £5, £10 and £20 notes have already been released. Like the earlier releases in the series, public opinion would be considered for selecting the portrait to be depicted on the latest £50 polymer note. The Banknote Character Advisory Committee will select a subject and people will asked to nominate personalities pertaining to that particular field. The subject for was Visual Arts. Out of the 30,000 nominations, J.M.W. Turner was chosen based on public opinion. These new £20 notes will be out in 2020.
According to the Bank officials, Polymer notes are cleaner, stronger, more secure and more durable. They have better security features and are 2.5 times more durable than paper notes. Since they last so long, they are more environmentally friendly. The Bank will continue to use an animal by-product composition of polymer even after nation-wide protests as they are unable to find a better substitute. They will follow legal procedures and also consult other organizations before taking the final decision.
