1893-S Morgan Dollar Graded PCGS AU 55 sold for $38,400

Heritage Auctions offered several interesting coins from 11th October to 14th October at the Signature Auction in Dallas. One of the highlights was an 1893-S Morgan dollar graded PCGS AU 55 with a green CAC sticker. Out of the 100,000 coins that were struck, only a few of them exist in MS grade. Coins in AU condition are even rarer.The lustre is strong on both sides with minor wear on the high points and in the fields. There is proof-like reflectivity in certain parts with some golden-tan and lavender toning in the lightly abraded surfaces.
AU-50 examples have been sold for $17,000 to $18,000. Five PCGS AU-53 coins have been sold for $21,150 to $28,800 in two years. Another coin Graded PCGS AU-55 piece without a CAC sticker was sold for $32,900. AU-58 1893-S dollars have a market value of $80,000.
