Jibanananda Das popularly known as “Rupashi Bangla Kabi” was a most admired Bengali poet, writer, and novelist. Das breathed his last on today, on 22nd October, 1954.He is acknowledging as the premier poet after Rabindranath Tagore and Nazrul Islam in Bangladesh. He wrote ceaselessly. Seven volumes of his poems were published during his lifetime but after his death several novels and short stories were discovered.
His best known collection includes Ruposhi Bangla, Banalata Sen, Mahaprithibi, and Shreshtha Kavita etc. for his great work he was awarded with several prestigious awards such as Rabindra Memorial Award and Sahitya Academy Award.
Though he did not achieve much popularity in his lifetime, but nowadays critics consider him as greatest poet. To honor this great modern poet Bangladesh Post has issued 4 Taka commemorative postage stamps.
