Farrukhsiyar Gold Mohur Sold For INR 36,000

This beautiful gold mohur was issued by Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar during the 5th year of his reign. It was sold for INR 36,000 in an auction of Todywalla held in Chennai on 6th October 2018.Farrukhsiyar sat on the Mughal throne in the year 1713 CE, after murdering Jahandar Shah. He sat on the Mughal throne with the help of Sayyid brother’s, particularly Sayyid Hassan Ali Khan Barha, who was later chosen as the Grand Wazir of the Mughal Empire. Sayyid Brother made Farrukhsiyar as their puppet, and later when Farrukhsiyar opposed this two kingmaker, they imprisoned him, blinded him by needles and finally killed him.
This gold mohur was minted in Dar-ul-Khilafat Shahjahanabad. The obverse of this coin is inscribed with the name and title of Farrukhsiyar. The reverse of this coin is inscribed with the mint name and regnal year.
