Andrew Johanson was the 17th President of the United States of America; he served his country from the year 1865 CE to 1869 CE. He assumed his presidency after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
Andrew Johnson was born in poverty 29th December 1808 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He never attended any type of formal school, but anyhow manages to acquire basic reading skills on his own. Johnson and his family moved to Tennessee in the year 1826 where he opened his own tailoring shop. He got married in the year 1827 CE; his wife helped him in learning arithmetic and learning. In the later period, Johanson shop became the center for the political discussion among the working elements of the community. This became the turning point in the life of Andrew Johanson which encourages him to take a part in public service, slowly he became famous amongst the local public and then he climbed steadily. He was a local alderman from 1828 to 30; he also became mayor in the year 1830, he was a state senator from 1835-37 and 1839-41. He was also elected to Congress in the year 1843 and served his nation in the five terms plan. He returned to Tennessee in 1853 and was elected governor, and worked to establish the first tax-funded public schools in the state.
