The popular Ghazal singer Begum Akhtar is also known as Akhrari Bai Faizabadi. She was a well known Indian singer of Hindustani classical music; she had contributed a lot in Ghazal, Dadra, and Thumri. Begum Akhtar showed interest in music at a very young age; she was trained under the great people like Ustad Imdad Khan, Mohammad Khan, Abdul Waheed Khan, and Ustad Jhande Khan Saheb. She sang her emotions and poetries in the form of Ghazals. The government of India had awarded her with Padam Shri and Padam Bhushan. She was given the title of Mallika-e-Ghazal.
The government of India had issued this 5 Rupee Commemorative Coin on 7th October 2014 to celebrate a 100th birth anniversary of his versatile singer. UNC set and proof coin with the 100 Rupee denomination was also issued by the government of India with the same theme.
