Kumarasami Kamaraj is better known as K.Kamaraj; He was born on 15th July 1903. He is well known for his simplicity and integrity. He was an Indian Politician from Tamil Nadu and was one of the important figures of politics during the 1960’s. He was also a leader of Indian National Congress and he is widely recognized as ‘Kingmaker’.

K.Kamaraj took an active part in Indian freedom struggle and due to his reason he was also thrown in the jail several times; he spends around eight years in prison. He was elected as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during 1954-1963; He was also Member of Parliament during 1952-1954 and 1969-1975. He also became president of Congress Party in 1964. He is well known for his famous ‘Kamaraj Plan’ which led to the resignation of high-level national and state official in order to devote their energy to revitalize the Congress party. Due to his outstanding work, he was also awarded Bharat Ratna in the year 1976.

The Indian government had issued this 5 rupees commemorative coin in the year 2004.
