2018-09-19 Wed
Matthew Bennett International is going to auction some interesting postage stamps from 23rd to 25th September at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, 776 Boylston St., in Boston. An exclusive online sale will also be organised after the auction as well. One of the highlights is the Golden State collection that consists of gem mint Washington-Franklin postage stamps. Several top-graded stamps from this famous and challenging area would also be offered.
A 1914 3¢ horizontal flat plate coil will be offered as a mint never-hinged guideline pair at the event. The listed market value of a mint very fine guideline pair is $2,600 and that of a mint line pair in Superb 98 condition is $14,000. Another popular catalogue lists the item at $15,000. The offered stamp is certified by Professional Stamp Experts in 2010 and comes along with a graded certificate. Experts believe that just seven guideline pairs have been graded 90 or above.
The 1909 4¢ orange-brown Washington on bluish paper, graded XF (extremely fine) 90, offered at the sale is the highest graded 4¢ bluish paper stamp by both the Philatelic Foundation and Professional Stamp Experts.
