The board game of our childhood on stamp!

How many summers have gone by when we haven’t played Monopoly! It seems likes ages...doesn’t it? Do you know that our favourite board game “Monopoly” was invented by the Parker Bothers on 7th March 1933.

Parker Brothers is an American toy and game manufacturer and brand. Since 1883, the company has published more than 1,800 games. During the Great Depression, a time when many companies went out of business, Parker Brothers released a new board game called Monopoly and it was an instant success!

However the history of the board game Monopoly can be traced back to the early 20th century. The earliest known version of Monopoly, known as “The Landlord's Game”, was designed by an American, Elizabeth Magie, and first patented in 1904 but existed from 1902. But the version much like today’s Monopoly was sold by Parker Brothers by 1933.

The USA Post in 1998 released a 32 cents commemorative stamp to celebrate the most commercially successful game in the US gaming history!

Isn’t it interesting?
