This commemorative coin was issued by the United Kingdom in the year 2009 to celebrate 200th Birth Anniversary of Charles Darwin and 150 anniversary of the publication of ‘On the origin of Species’.Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist and geologist famous for his theory of evolution. He published his theory of evolution with compelling evidence in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species.
The weight of this commemorative coin is around 12g. Its thickness is around 2.5mm and it has the diameter of around 28.4mm. The obverse of this coin is designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, it depicts the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the center, and the inscription ‘ELIZABETH II.DEL.GRA.REG.FID.DEF.’ around. The reverse side of this coin is designed by Suzie Zamit’, it depicts the portrait of Charles Darwin and Chimpanzee facing each other in a center, The word ‘DARWIN’ is written in between two years 1809 and 2009 is featured at the top and denomination ‘TWO POUNDS’ is written at the bottom.
