On 27th August, the Central Bank of Mexico published a press release stating that a new 500-peso note will be soon issued with better security features. It would be the first denomination in the country’s new family of banknotes.

Designs would highlight Mexico’s historical and natural heritage. The obverse would feature designs based on Old Mexico, Colonial Mexico, Independent Mexico, Reformation and Restoration of the Republic, Revolutionary Mexico, and Contemporary Mexico.

The reverse designs would highlight Fauna and Flora of Mexico. Rivers and lakes, temperate forests, dry forests, thickets and deserts, coasts, seas and islands, and rainforests that are a part of World Heritage sites of UNESCO would be depicted on the new notes.
