With a total area of under one thousand square miles, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the smallest sovereign states in the World. Not only that, Luxembourg is the World's only remaining sovereign Grand Duchy.Be it tourism or history or philately, Luxembourg has something unique to offer. The most unique contribution of the country is in the field of philately. The country that issued world’s first Souvenir Sheet had also issued a unique stamp commemorating ‘Mondorf-les-Bains’.
Mondorf-les-Bains is a commune in south-eastern Luxembourg. Mondorf-les-Bains is also known as the spa town in Luxembourg as it is famous for the mineral springs. This lowest administration division was elevated to the status of town in.
To commemorate this achievement a special stamp was released on 18th September in 1939. This 2 Luxembourgish franc stamp features a young woman bathing under a spring. This design is an allegory of the symbolic representation of Medicinal Baths.
The springs and the only casino in the country is the sole source of earning of this beautiful town.
